Importance of Lighting for Dental Office

The importance of light cannot be underestimated in any part of our lives. In fact, light is quite vital for certain professions and it does more than merely make things visible. Also, light can significantly affect our quality of life, our energy, and our mood as well.

If you have recently noticed that you feel less tired and exhausted all the time, then there are high chances that you need to change the lighting of your house. Similarly, the lighting in our workplace puts an impact on our productivity and it must be paid attention to. As we have already mentioned, lighting is an important part of certain professions as well. And, dentistry is one such profession where light has to play a very critical role.

Dental operatory lights are available in a variety of types and models and different types of lighting work together to make the functioning of the dental office possible. The two major types of lighting used by dentists in dental offices are task lighting and ambient lighting.

As the name suggests, task lighting is utilized for performing specific tasks, whereas ambient lighting is meant for illuminating the entire space. Tasks lighting includes lighting like dental surgical lights, desk lamps, and other such lights meant for specific purposes. It is important to maintain the balance between both types of dental operatory light in a dental office.

Improper lighting in a dental office can put unnecessary stress on the eyes of the dentists, staff, and patients as well. Hence, it is important that dental offices avoid all the common lighting mistakes in their offices.

One of the biggest lighting mistakes made by dentist officers is using a fluorescent ambient light for their space. However, the suggested option is that there should be multiple lighting sources installed in a dental office for a variety of psychological benefits.

Similarly, there are some common mistakes made by dental offices in choosing operatory lights as well. There are two main features that must be considered when installing operatory lights in a dental office: brightness and flexibility.

When it comes to the brightness of the lighting, it is ideally suggested to maintain the ratio of 10:1 between the operating light and ambient light respectively. This ratio is considered to be the standard figure in the field of dentistry. And it is important that every dental office adheres to this standard ratio of brightness.

Another crucial feature of lighting is flexibility which is not paid enough attention to. Flexibility is important so that light can be adjusted at different angles and nobody gets blinded during the process. Operatory lights come with a wide range of options to mount them. They must be installed after properly considering their relevance to the work style of the user.

Well, there are ideal lighting solutions for every dental office’s needs. Choose the best dental equipment and make your dental office an ideal choice.
